Tutoring Scholarship
DSFT is pleased to offer scholarships to help offset the cost of tutoring to help individuals with Down Syndrome reach academic and educational goals. This scholarship is not designed to cover the entire cost of tutoring or academic tuition but to aid in making tutoring more accessible. The scholarship will be available three times a year, in January, May, and September.
Tutoring Application Requirements
Purpose:
The purpose of this application is to allow individuals with Down Syndrome (age 5 and older) to request assistance with meeting academic and educational goals outside of the normal academic classroom environment. Individuals may apply three times per year.
1. Eligibility Criteria

Diagnosis of Down Syndrome: The applicant must have a documented diagnosis of Down syndrome.

Age Range: 5 years old and above, such as school-age children, teenagers, or adults pursuing higher education.

Residency: Applicants must be a resident of Tallahassee, FL.

Name of the organization or professional who will be working with the applicant.
2. Application Form

A completed scholarship application form must be filled out online.
3. Personal Statement or Essay

A brief essay or personal statement from the applicant or a parent/guardian. This might describe the student's educational journey, challenges, goals, and the need for tutoring support.

Reflection on how tutoring would help the student succeed academically or how they would benefit from the scholarship.
4. Tutoring Plan or Proposal

Applicants need to submit a brief tutoring plan or description of the type of tutoring assistance needed, whether it's academic support in a particular subject, specialized learning strategies, or assistance with executive functioning skills.

Applicants need to submit goals and benchmarks the individual will be using to successfully measure the tutoring.
5. Parental or Guardian Information

For younger students, the contact details from the parent or guardian are requested.
6. Deadline and Submission Instructions

The applications must be received by December 15th to be considered for the January semester.
